Sacramento’s historic Japantown formed in the early 1900s as Japanese immigrants established businesses and community institutions near downtown. By the 1920s–1930s, it was a thriving district. World War II and later redevelopment displaced the neighborhood, but its legacy—now over a century old—lives on through community events, cultural institutions, and family traditions.
